BJP and BSP created uproar in Parliament over the reported move to set up a developmentboard for Bundelkhand region forcing the government to give anassurance that the federal character of the country will beensured.
“There is no proposal before the government which willalter the federal character of the country,” Minister of Statefor Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan told the RajyaSabha.
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned over the issue as BJP and BSP members from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh opposed the move.Question Hours in both the Houses were adjournedfollowing din and slogan-shouting.
Normalcy was restored in the Upper House after thegovernment statement. However, the statement did not makespecific reference to creation of the board for development ofa backward area which falls in both the states.
