The BJP government in Gujarat banned the book Jinnah: India, Partition, Independence written by the party’s expelled leader Jaswant Singh.
The book tarnishes the image of Sardar Patel, the state government said.
Jaswant Singh said he was “saddened” by the banning of the book in Gujarat.
“The day we start banning books, we are banning thinking,” he said.
Jaswant Singh book examines the role of Congress party leader and the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mr Patel in the partition of India in 1947.
Singh’s view in the book that Jinnah was not responsible for Partition invited strong criticism from the Sangh Parivar. Embarrassed BJP leaders even skipped the book launch.
